Springfield IL the Ninth Best Place to Open a Restaurant in the US

Restaurant trade mag RESTAURANT BUSINESS lists Springfield as the ninth best place to open a restaurant in the United States. The rankings, in the April edition, are based on restaurant sales per capita and as a percentage of er capita income in the city. Those figures are compared to national figures.

"As in common, the RGI (Restaurant Growth Index) favors markets with a significant number of out- of town visitors, such as coastal areas and college towns," the story on page 24 states. " This year's top 10 includes several such markets and also Springfield, Illinois, which may seem like an odd addition at first glance. However, when you consider that Springfield is the Illinois state capital - with a large number of lobbyists, legislators and government employees regularly traveling through and needing a place to eat - its inclusion makes m ore sense.

Two other Illinois cities made the list of 150 urban markets. Chicago was No. 103, and the Quad Cities area was No. 130.
